commonly asked questions about anti-wrinkle injections

Injectable anti-wrinkle treatments have been incredibly popular for years, and for good reason. Botox-style injections (‘Botox’ is just one brand name) work to relax the fine musculature of your face, preventing the skin from wrinkling with age, and reducing the appearance of wrinkles which already exist.

But with something so amazing, people can’t help but have questions. Some of the most common questions we are asked include:

Do anti-wrinkle injections hurt?

Not much at all. This is a non-surgical procedure, and there is little if any pain. Only people who have issues with needles commonly have issues with the treatment, and even they only feel mild discomfort. If anything, Botox-style anti-wrinkle treatment has helped many needle-phobes overcome their fear of needles.

How long does an anti-wrinkle injection treatment take?

Typically, your entire visit is around 30 minutes. The injections themselves usually only take a few minutes. In fact, many clients have the treatment before going into work, or over their lunch hour. There is nothing stopping you from going right back to work, either.

How soon can I expect to see results?

Some of the effects of a Botox-style anti-wrinkle treatment will be visible instantly. However, the full effects usually take between 1 and 2 weeks to develop. This is because the protein is injected not into the veins but directly into the tissues of your face. It takes that long for the material to diffuse naturally through the targeted area.

How long do Botox-style anti-wrinkle treatments last?

That can vary form person to person, but a treatment often begins to lose effectiveness after 4 to 6 months. During the first year, you should expect to have 3 treatments. After that, most patients receive only 1 or 2 treatments each year.

Do anti-wrinkle injections work for everyone?

Essentially, yes. Anyone who wants to prevent or reduce the appearance of frown lines, crow’s feet, forehead wrinkles and similar signs of aging should consider it.

Are anti-wrinkle injection treatments really safe?

Yes. This treatment technology has been used for more than 4 decades, and the medical and aesthetic communities become more skilled in its safe, effective use every year.

Are there any side effects to anti-wrinkle injections I should look out for?

No treatment is completely without side effects, but Botox-style anti-wrinkle injections have very few side effects, and most patients experience only very mild ones.

Possible side effects include:

  • Slight, short-lived swelling or bruising at the injection site – even the smallest injection breaks the skin in a tiny spot, and this can be sensitive for a few hours to a day.
  • A mild headache lasting less than 24 hours – very few patients report headache at all, and those who do usually see the headache subside quickly. Headaches are almost always very mild, if they occur at all.

Note, the best way to avoid or minimise side effects is to get your injections done by a trained professional. Of course, at Simply Cosmetic, all of our technicians qualify!
